A Midsummer Night's Dream

Cobwed

For this project, I was tasked with making jodhpurs with a focus on stripe placement and pattern matching. I was a first hand and the draper was Tyler Phillips. Together, Tyler and I had to work out how to have the fabric of the jodhpurs from sagging down and creating drag lines. I also explored the style of pockets that are in the jodhpurs.

Cobwed

Once again, Tyler Phillips and I worked together as draper and first hand to create a duster. This project helped to to understand adding fullness into garments. In the first fitting, It became very clear once the actor was in the duster that it was definitely not full enough. As with the jodhpurs, the design played with black and white stipes or plaid and keeping them on the the correct grain line.

Philostrate

I took the lead on creating the plastron for this costume. It is created out of a base of 1/4" thick industrial felt and then upholstered with various fabrics. In the first photo, it shows the markings on the industrial felt to see where the fabrics and buttons would be. I then worked on the layering and order of operations of the fabrics and knowing when the plastron could go under the sewing machine.
